BIOGRAPHY:

CATSCAN is an electronic rock duo from Vienna, Virginia.
Two boys, Mason Shelby and Paul Tsiaperas, experiment with unusual instrumentation and minimalist arrangements of mostly pop songs since the year 2000.

They have a new album out called 田代島 and put out one new song every month.

WHAT DO THEY SOUND LIKE?

CATSCAN's "genre" is not easily defined; we feel this, in some ways, is a victory in and of itself. There is a certain maniacal irreverance present in much of our material which suggestes punk rock. However, the use of electronic manipulation, sampling, synthesizers, and exotic acoustic instruments suggests something else entirely.

Our main influences primarily include They Might Be Giants, Primus, Dead Kennedys, Koji Kondo, Gorillaz, Pixies, The Residents, and of course, The Beatles. In addition to those groups, we've been told we sound like Ween, The Aquabats, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Violent Femmes, Fountains of Wayne, and a few other cool bands.

CATSCAN performs, primarily, as a two-piece rock unit accompanied by a pre-recorded electronic rhythm section. However, we sometimes perform with other humans (drummers, additional guitarists/vocalists/keyboardists, euphoniums, etc.) and sometimes without any machines at all.
